December 29, 1947 – April 24, 2025
Zackie Sue Salmon passed away on April 24, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after a long illness. She was born December 29, 1947, in Hall County, Memphis, Texas, to Ruth (Eunice Reynolds) and Patrick H. Salmon.
She is survived by her son Demian (Nicki); her sister Pati (Bob); three treasured granddaughters, Rylie, Bridgette, and Holland; sister-in-law Gail; and her beloved partner of 42 years, Ann Hild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard, and her cherished grandson Aidan. Zackie held close her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Zackie spent her early years on the family farm before moving to Amarillo in 1959. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1966. In 1969, she moved to California, returning to Amarillo after the birth of her son to work as a printer and later run her own catering truck, “Zak’s Snacks.”
With Ann’s support, Zackie earned her Master of Science degree from Texas Tech University—graduating alongside Demian, who earned his bachelor’s. She was incredibly proud of his accomplishments.
