IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ursula (Uschi) Schulz
Ostertag
1942 – February 26, 2026
Ursula (Uschi) Schulz Ostertag, 83, passed away on February 26, 2026 in Taos, NM. A woman who was drawn by the landscape, art, music, and traditions of the Southwest, she was a decades-long resident of Taos. Born in 1942 in Düsseldorf, Germany, she was a lifelong learner to the end and never stopped being curious about the world. She was eager and able to make a friendly acquaintance. She enjoyed a drink, meal, and conversation with those she met along her many paths. Uschi's career was varied and impressive: She trained horses in Ireland; ran her own antiques business in England and Germany; worked as private chef to prominent politicians and families in Washington D.C, Boston, Houston, and Maryland; owned her own catering business; and was a supremely talented gardener and farmers market vendor. She was skilled at preparing and enjoying an excellent meal, and she adored flowers (the right kind, at the right time, in the right color). Uschi lived a vivid, adventurous life. She is predeceased by her husband Klaus Ostertag and her sister Brigitte (Gitta) Seckel. She is survived by her daughter Julia as well as many beloved friends in Taos, Maryland, Germany, and beyond, including the four-legged friends she dearly loved - especially Fritz, Spencer, Pongo, and King. In remembrance of Uschi, kindly do something in support of animals.
