Theresa Ann Varela, a woman of unwavering strength and courage, was born on August 31, 1960, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and passed peacefully on April 7, 2026, surrounded by her family. Known for her strong-willed nature and indomitable spirit, Theresa faced her battle with cancer with remarkable courage, placing her trust and faith in God while never losing her independent resolve to thrive in every moment of life.

Raised in Glorieta, she nurtured a vibrant soul filled with a love for music, singing, and playing the guitar—talents that brought joy not only to herself but to all who were fortunate to hear her melodies. Theresa also cherished the simpler pleasures of life: cooking delicious meals that warmed the heart and tending to her garden, where she found peace and solace.

Theresa's adventurous spirit shone brightest during her beloved mountain cruises alongside her dear friend Angela, sister Elizabeth, and her faithful dog, Kiki. These moments exemplified her love of nature and friendship, weaving memories that will forever echo in the lives of those who shared these journeys with her.

She was a devoted sister, survived by Martin (Francisca), Gene (Yvette), Ramona, Billy (Mildred), David, Helen (Albert), and Elizabeth, as well as by a multitude of nieces and nephews who carry forward her spirit and legacy. Theresa was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Guillermo (Willie) and Josie Varela, her sister Maria (Lulu) Varela, and her niece Carmela DeVargas.

The funeral service will be honored by pallbearers Adan and Sofia Varela, with honorary pallbearers being her remaining nieces and nephews, a testament to the profound love and respect held for her by family.

Though her presence is deeply missed, the music of her soul, the warmth of her cooking, the beauty of her garden, and the trails she blazed through life will continue to inspire all who loved her.
