Born on November 15, 1936, in Hutchinson, Kansas, Susie’s journey through life was defined by her deep connections with others and her extraordinary talents.
A remarkable observer of people, Susie had a unique gift for capturing the essence of her subjects through her lens. Her artistry extended beyond photography; she was also a gifted poet and songwriter, with musical abilities that she nurtured from childhood when she learned to play the piano. Throughout the years, these skills flourished, and they were a source of pride for her.
Her academic pursuits led her to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii, a place where her creativity and started blooming. Susie's warmth and compassion made her a treasure in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. People gravitated towards her; she exuded kindness and an innate ability to listen without judgment. Friends often found solace in her presence, knowing they could share their thoughts and feelings, confident in receiving thoughtful advice and a fresh perspective.
Her close friend William Corbett recalls fond memories of their coffee outings, each moment steeped in laughter and open conversation. Susie's companionship brought joy to many, including her brother Larry Mattison and her beloved blue heeler dog, Primo.
Over the years, Susie's life intertwined with faith as a member of St. Bede's Episcopal Church, where she shared her love for music by singing in the choir. She was married to her husband, John Graham Warford, for over 60 years. The passing of John marked a profound chapter in her life, yet her spirit remained undeterred, illuminating her path and those around her.
Susie's family legacy is cherished by her living brother, Larry, her dear friend, William, and many cherished family members and close friends in Santa Fe and Los Angeles, all of whom will carry on her memory. Her deceased family members, including her parents Ed and Dora Mattison, her siblings Jack and Lois Mattison, and her beloved pets, Gipsy and Ginger, welcomed her with open arms in the hereafter.
Family and friends are invited to honor Susie's life on Saturday November 15th, 2025, beginning at 2:00pm at her home in Jacona located at 12 Jennings Court, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87506.
