Red River ski pioneer Sigi Klein dies at 90
Sigi Klein, a longtime Red River ski instructor, master builder and pioneer of the local ski industry, died peacefully at his home in Red River on Monday morning (March 30), surrounded by family. He was 90.
Klein was a central figure in the development of Red River Ski Area, where he taught skiing for decades, helped establish early race programs and influenced generations of skiers. A skilled craftsman, he was also known for building homes and structures throughout the Red River area, leaving a lasting mark on the community’s landscape.
In 2015, Klein was inducted into the New Mexico Ski Hall of Fame in recognition of his decades of contributions to the sport and to ski instruction.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A full list of survivors is pending.
