Sharon Loraine Davis Hosenfeld, a devoted advocate in the field of healthcare and a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born on April 24, 1946, in Rochester, New York, Sharon embodied strength, compassion, and resilience throughout her life—qualities that shone brightly in her personal and professional endeavors.

Sharon's journey began with her education at Kansas University, where she earned her nursing degree with honors, graduating top of class from the KU nursing school. Her dedication to her craft led her to a fulfilling career at the Kansas University Medical Center, where she specialized in orthopedics and cancer treatment. Her commitment to her patients was unwavering; she was known for her kind and loving demeanor, always putting others first and advocating for their needs.

Throughout her life, Sharon's spirit and tenacity extended beyond her profession. She maintained close ties with friends from her various homes across the nation, staying in regular contact through letters and later, online correspondence. Her supportive nature ensured that no friend ever felt forgotten, as she demonstrated again and again the importance of connection and camaraderie.

A true force of nature, Sharon was fiercely proud of her Scottish heritage, a heritage she celebrated alongside her academic achievements. Steering her nursing class as the flag bearer into the graduation stadium marked one of her proudest accomplishments. Additionally, her interests included being a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks, often joining in excited chants of "Rock Chalk!"

Sharon’s life was one of constant movement, as she and her family navigated military relocations from New York to California, New Mexico, Texas, Michigan, Kansas, and back again. She eventually chose to settle in New Mexico, where her legacy continues through her children and grandchildren, who have embraced the family tradition of living throughout the country.

She is survived by her son, Brian Hosenfeld (Katy), and her daughter, Karin Hosenfeld (Jonathan Van Der Berg). Her legacy also lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Victoria Hosenfeld Mariosa and Alessandro Hosenfeld Mariosa, who were sources of immense pride for their grandmother.

Sharon's journey was not without loss; she was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and June (Ball) Davis, and her husband, John Hosenfeld. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

As we honor Sharon Loraine Davis Hosenfeld, we celebrate a life rich with kindness, determination, and advocacy. Her strong will and unwavering support for others carry on as an example for all who had the privilege to cross her path.

She will be laid to rest with her husband, John, in Santa Fe National Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
