Rudy Manuel Martinez, affectionately known as "Crew Chief" or "Nine Grand," passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the age of 67. Born on May 30, 1958, in Fairview, New Mexico, Rudy's life was marked by his compassionate spirit and love for his family, friends, and drag racing.

Rudy was a kind and generous soul, deeply respected and cherished by all who knew him. His personality was vibrant, described by many as the life of the party. Notably, his infectious laughter and warm heart created lasting memories for his family, particularly his grandchildren. They will always remember their afternoons spent in the park, playing bingo, and performing songs and dances for him—a testament to the cherished bond they shared.

His deep-seated passion for drag racing defined a significant part of his life. Those who raced alongside him in the 1990s can attest to Rudy's unwavering loyalty and devotion. He was not merely a crew member; he was integral to the team, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that made racing a collective experience. Known for keeping the cars in pristine condition, he was a driving force behind Hawk Racing—a loyal companion who left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of sharing the track with him.

In addition to racing, Rudy had a fondness for fishing and enjoyed celebrating life with his friends and family. His love for seafood, particularly shrimp, was a known favorite, often enjoyed during gatherings that would quickly turn into lively affairs fueled by Rudy's jovial nature.

Rudy’s proudest accomplishments included his son and grandchildren, whom he treasured dearly. His pride also extended to his beloved 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner, a project of love that reflected the craftsmanship and dedication that ruled his life.

Rudy is survived by his son, Larry Martinez (Desiree Salazar); grandchildren, Larry Martinez Jr., Faithy Martinez, and Aisha Martinez; great-grandson, Landon Foster Paige; siblings, Ida Martinez and Daniel Martinez; and nieces and nephews, Autumn Martinez, Michelle Martinez, Leon Martinez, and Kylie Martinez. Rudy is also survived by many other cousins and cherished family members too numerous to list.
