Roy Eugene Salazar Sr., age 77, peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends on March 6, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on January 2, 1949, in Espanola, New Mexico, Roy's life was a tapestry of dedication, warmth, and artistry.

After completing high school, Roy proudly served in the Marine Corps, during his time in the Marines, he bravely served in the Vietnam War, an experience that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and service to his country. His time in the Marines taught him valuable skills, including scuba diving, but also inspired him to engage in Search and Rescue Operations, helping those in need.

Following his military service, Roy pursued a career as a Funeral Director, carrying on the family legacy at Block-Salazar Mortuary, established by his parents Ramoncito and Alberta Salazar. He further honored his expertise at Berardinelli's Family Funeral Service for a time. In addition to his dedication to serving grieving families, Roy explored various career paths, including working as a Loan Officer for El Pueblo State Bank and a Security Guard for Los Alamos National Labs, from which he eventually retired.

Roy's creativity flourished as gifted woodcarver, where he took great pride in crafting walking sticks and other wooden items. His talent shone through, particularly during local events, such as when he set up shop at the annual walk to the Santuario, selling out his entire stock in a single day. His artistic endeavors were a testament to his love for nature and his appreciation for craftsmanship.

Roy was a devoted father, grandfather, friend and community member. Roy and his children cherished the memories of their childhood, he was immensely involved in their lives, leading camping and fishing trips coaching their sports teams, and creating experiences they hold dear in their hearts to this day. He took great pride in being an amazing grandfather to Scarlett Harnandez, Savanah Salazar, Adrian Romero, Julian Romero, Roy Eugene Salazar III, and Little Waldy, they all loved him and cherished every moment together. Roy's personality radiated kindness and humility, he was often described as generous and outspoken, and he always embraced life with an open heart. Family meals were also a joy for him, and he never turned down an opportunity indulge in delicious food, particularly his favorite sweets. Roy was not a picky eater; he would indulge in any delicious meal that was prepared for him.

Roy was also an avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to the 49ers football team, he would always tune in for the games when they came on TV. He also found joy in listening to music, enjoying everything from the oldies to Christian music, and especially country music. He also enjoyed spending time with his longtime best friend Kenny Vigil. Kenny was like family to Roy and over the years they solidified a bond that transcended brotherhood.

Roy Eugene Salazar Sr. is survived by his children, Briana Valencia, Roy Eugene Salazar Jr.; his grandchildren, Scarlett Hernandez, Savanah Salazar, Adrian Romero, Julian Romero, Roy Eugene Salazar III, and Little Waldy; siblings Clyde Salazar (Lucy), Richard Salazar (Carol), Carmella Salazar and her son John Ramon Vigil, Teresa Martinez (Lee); his cherished friend, Kenny Vigil; as well as many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and cherished friends.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Amy Salazar; granddaughter, Kishaw Romero; brothers, Gilbert Salazar and Adolf Salazar; as well as his parents, Ramoncito and Alberta Salazar.

In honor of Roy's remarkable life, A Rosary will be held on March 24, 2026, at 10:15am, followed by a Mass at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, located at 126 S McCurdy Rd, Santa Cruz, NM, 87567. Following Mass, Inurnment with Military Honors will take place at 2:00pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501.

Roy Eugene Salazar Sr. will not only be remembered for his service and accomplishments but for unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
