Roy Ortega, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico alongside his loving wife Cruz and his faithful companion Bandit. Born on June 1, 1950, in Santa Fe, Roy lived a life filled with dedication and passion, enriched by his contributions to his profession and community.

Roy spent an impressive 25 years as House Superintendent for Davis & Associates, where his exceptional skills and knowledge in construction were invaluable. His expertise in building homes greatly shaped the Las Campanas community, leaving behind structures that reflect his commitment to quality and craftsmanship. His deep understanding of architecture and engineering was matched only by his willingness to share advice with others embarking on their own home building projects. His education and experience as a Mechanical Engineer, obtained during his eight years of honorable service in the National Guard, laid the foundation for his successful career.

A man of few words, Roy had a gentle nature that resonated with those who knew him. He was recognized as nice and easy-going, embodying a spirit of kindness and support. While he maintained a humble demeanor, those around him understood the depth of his character and the genuine care he held for others.

In addition to his professional life, Roy cherished his moments of leisure, particularly enjoying visits to the casino where he delighted in the thrill of gambling. He also had a memorable quirk: he was notably afraid of needles, which kept him away from doctors for an extended period, adding a relatable touch to his otherwise composed personality.

Roy’s family was the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Cruz Martinez, who stood by his side throughout their journey together, as well as his beloved dog Bandit. He is also survived by his sons, Angelo (Francis) and Anthony Ortega, his grandchildren, Isaiah and Miyla Ortega, his great-granddaughter, Kiara and his sister, Toni Bencomo.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Porfiro Ortega; his mother, Lorenzita Lucero; his granddaughter, Angelina Ortega; and his grandson, Anthony Ortega Jr. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who knew them.

As we remember Roy Ortega, we celebrate a life marked by unwavering dedication to both his profession and his family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him and observe the impact he made within his community and beyond.
