Richard A Weber, 60, son of Thomas and Charmaine Weber, passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, and peacefully while visiting his parents’ home in Los Alamos.
He was born in Tucson, Arizona and came with his parents to Los Alamos when he was six months old. Most of his life was spent in Las Cruces, NM where he lived.
Richard graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1983, then attended New Mexico State University where he earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He stayed in Las Cruces, working at White Sands Missile Range until his retirement last year.
Growing up, Richard was always friendly to people, whether young or old, and showed courtesy and respect to everyone. His attitude was a strong point that made his parents very proud.
Richard loved cars, animals, and music from classical to modern. But most of all, he loved his soulmate and future wife Terri Lopez of Las Cruces, NM. They both worked in the computer department where their knowledge and mutual interest brought them together “and the rest is history”.
Working on cars, “drag” racing, and collecting “anything and everything” was fun for the two of them and as his grandfather would say, “Everything is a comfort and a joy.”
When Richard lived in Los Alamos he liked to explore canyons and trails and did “everything young kids do”.
He loved his little sister Jennice, and showed her lots of love and attention. She remembers the time they spent together playing with bugs, ducks (“Big Duck”) and dogs. Anything living was fair game for our inquisitive children. She and her brother formed a very strong bond throughout their lives.
Richard leaves behind his father, Thomas “Tom”; sister Jennice (Robert) Meehan and their children Jeremy, Taylor and Seth; stepdaughter Christina (Mark) Maese and grandchildren Izaiah and Mia; uncles Paul (Marilyn) and Lawrence (Karen); cousins Hank, Carla Jo, Lisa, Sara, Tim, Heidi, Sandra, and Ann and many, many friends. Particularly touching his life from his childhood in Los Alamos were the “kids” Mark Gosling, Preston Cooper, and Cindy Brown.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Terri; his mother, Charmaine; grandparents Henry and Blanch Weber (Illinois) and Harold and Flossie Strawman (Ohio); uncle Robert Strawman, and aunt and uncle Robert and Connie Weber.
No services are planned at this time. However, Rivera Family Funeral Home is blessed to assist the family at this difficult time, and encourages that comments, pictures, and stories of Richard be shared for the family to cherish.
The family requests any donations be made to your favorite charity in Richard’s honor.
