It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Elvin Cozad, 77, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, who passed away on October 30, 2026. Richard was born in Wheatland, Wyoming on September 10, 1949, to Elvin Clifford Cozad and Velma Marie Cozad.
Richard was a beloved husband, father, family member, and friend whose life meant so much to those who knew and loved him. He was a mentor to so many, known for his kindness, wisdom, humor, and ability to find laughter even in life's most difficult moments. When situations seemed impossible, Richard had a way of offering just the right words, bringing perspective, reassurance, and often a little humor when it was needed most. He believed in facing life's challenges with hard work and a good attitude, and he never faulted anyone for trying, even when things didn't work out. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel understood, supported, and encouraged, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
To his family, he was more than a father, husband or grandfather. He was a best friend, a source of strength, the calm in the storm, and someone whose presence can never be replaced. His memory will live on through the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, the laughter he brought, and the family who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Cozad; his children, Michelle Nighswonger, Rick Cozad, Beau Cozad, Timothy Cozad, Mitchell Cozad, Jon Visage, and Shannon Trujillo; his grandchildren, Olivia, Tristan, Sarah, Phoebe, Meghan, Jayden, Silas, Briar, Baizelle, Hunter C., Gunner, Harlee, Hunter V., Holden, and Mason; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Millie, Lainey, Griffin, Presley, and Cassius; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Amanda Jo Visoky, and his brothers, Howard and Harvey Cozad.
No services will be held. The family appreciates the kindness, thoughts, and support received during this difficult time.
