With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Reynaldo "Willie" Martinez, age 76, who entered into eternal rest on July 1, 2026.

Willie was born on June 6, 1950, in Park View, New Mexico, to Reynaldo Martinez and Viola Maestas. He later grew up in Española, where he spent his teenage years. After graduating from high school, Willie joined Job Corps and moved to California. After spending two years there, he returned home to New Mexico, where he met the love of his life, Priscilla Leyba. Although life eventually led them down different paths, the love they shared never faded. Priscilla remained forever in Willie's heart, and when she passed before him, he carried her memory with him for the rest of his life.

Willie loved deeply and was deeply loved by his family and friends. He was loyal to those he cared about and was known for his honesty, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor. Though he could have a tough exterior, those who knew him best knew the caring heart behind it. He enjoyed playing basketball, and if you gave him the chance, he would gladly tell you just how good he was. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan through and through and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. Willie was also, without question, a true mama's boy. The bond he shared with his mother was one of unconditional love and was evident to everyone who knew him.

When he wasn't cheering on the Cowboys or reminiscing about his basketball days, you could usually find him enjoying his favorite television shows. He rarely missed an episode of Let's Make a Deal, The Price Is Right, or Gunsmoke, which became part of his daily routine. As Willie would often say, "I am who I am, bro." His laughter, stories, and larger-than-life personality will forever be remembered by those who were blessed to know and love him.

Surrounded by the love of his family and the Catholic faith that guided his life, Willie passed peacefully after receiving the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, including the Anointing of the Sick. Approximately one hour after receiving these sacred rites, he was peacefully called home to the Lord, bringing comfort and peace to those who loved him.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo Martinez and Viola Maestas; his brother, Roberto Martinez; his nephew, Ricky Martinez; his nephew, Nick Bustos; his niece, Reyna Martinez; and the love of his life, Priscilla Leyba.

He is survived by his brother, Raymond Martinez; his sisters, Carol Razler and Annette Bustos (Albert); his aunt, Connie Beavers; his uncle, Teofilo Trujillo (Emiliana); his niece, Raylyne Quintana (Josh); along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Serving as pallbearer will be Raymond Martinez.

Honorary pallbearers are Chris Blanco, David Lujan, Krizalena Quintana, Joshua Quintana, and Kaiden Romero.

The Martinez family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Sombrillo Nursing Home in Los Alamos, New Mexico, especially Ashley Martinez, for the love, compassion, and exceptional care shown to Willie throughout his final days.
