Born in Brooklyn, New York, Randy was the beloved youngest daughter of Lionel and Phylis Scheler. Randy was a life-long singer and musician - playing piano, guitar and most prominently as an adult, cello. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid 1980's doing secretarial work at law firms. She was extremely lucky getting out of San Francisco minutes before the Loma Prieta 1989 earthquake ravaged the city. She went on to go to school for and become a Certified Nutrition Consultant. She met her second husband and life partner, Harold May, at a mutual friends New Years Eve Party on 12/31/99. Their shared love of the music of Iris DeMent and the Grateful Dead, drew them together, which led to them to buying a home together in Nevada City, CA in 2001 where they got married in 2002, and then the big move to the Taos, New Mexico area in 2005 after buying their 2nd home. They enjoyed living in their off-grid home and participating in the rich cultural and music scene in Taos.
Randy was known for her caring nature, and cheerful demeanor despite her many health challenges and she especially enjoyed traveling and exploring the American Southwest, and going to live music festivals, concerts and playing music.
Randy is survived by her life partner, Harold May, Her older sisters Vicki Risa Smith of New York, Linda Gerstenblith and Brother-in-law Mitch Gerstenblith of Florida, nephews Brian, Justin and Ryan and niece Laurin as well as many cousins. She was preceded in death by Her Parents, Lionel and Phylis Scheler. Lionel was hoping for a son for their 3rd child, but instead he got his 3rd daughter although with the spelling name of a male.
A celebration of life will be held on October 9th at 4:00PM at Rivera Funeral Home in Taos.
