Patrick McClellan

Pat, as many that knew him, passed peacefully on August 27, 2025.

Pat was born on March 17, 1940, in Alamosa, Colorado to Orson McClellan and Olive Scott McClellan.

Pat was the youngest of the family with two older sisters and one older brother.

Pat spent his youth in Alamosa, working with his dad at the gas station selling candy, pumping gas, and working on cars.

In 1958, he graduated from Alamosa High Schoo and started to migrate west Arizona. He drove for Coca-Cola in Holbrook Arizona. It was there he met the love of his life, Kay Butler, and they got married on June 1, 1962. Pat and Kay had their first child, a son, Jonathan, on December 12, 1962. Moved to Show Low Arizona where he still drove for Coca-Cola, and had their second child, a daughter, Patricia, on May 26, 1964.

Then the family moved again to Las Angeles, California, while there was work for Air research making Aircraft Parts. Pat and his family took a vacation to Los Alamos to visit his brother Elmer and his wife, Dolly. While visiting, Pat and Kay loved the area and decided to make Los Alamos their home.

On the move again to Los Alamos, in 1969, where he was employed by Los Alamos National Laboratory. While there he worked on the accelerator at Meson Physics Facility. He was a supervisor at MP-8, where they made quad magnets bending magnets and kept the accelerator functioning by doing maintenance to the beam line. While in Los Alamos, Pat and Kay had their third child, Mark, on February 3, 1976.

Pats love for anything mechanical led to his passion of cars which he was always tinkering with. He found an airplane propeller and decided to make a hover craft out of this. We will never forget the bedframe go-cart along with the bicycle that had a big Husqvarna chain saw motor on it.

Later he got into the Los Alamos Aeromodelling club to fly R.C. airplanes which he must have built over 40 planes if not more and crashed a few of these, o well that happens. He enjoyed clocks so much he had a collection of 35 of these. He also made four or five clocks out of wood.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Kay, son, Jonathan and wife Kristie, son Mark, granddaughters Lisa, Kayla, along with great grandsons, Ryder, and Zaiden.

Pat was predeceased by his parents Augustus and Olive, and his daughter Patricia.
