Orlando Henry Chacon, a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and ardent outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Espanola, New Mexico. Born on December 6, 1956, in Fairview, New Mexico, Orlando lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a generous spirit that endeared him to his family and community.
A graduate of Espanola High School, Orlando's thirst for knowledge never ceased beyond his formal education. His career was a testament to his manifold talents. Proficient in building, painting, flooring installation, landscaping, and many other trades, Orlando was not one to shy away from learning new skills when the occasion demanded. He approached every task with diligence and an unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring that every job was completed to the highest standard. Among his notable personal achievements was the design and creation of a stunning fishpond for his wife, Tonia, at their home, as well as the planting of two Blue Spruce trees, lovingly named after his sons, Cielito and Aaron.
Orlando's character was built on steadfastness, reliability, and a deep sense of family loyalty. His wife, Tonia Chacon, whom he married on February 28, 1981, in Fairview, New Mexico, fondly recalls his enthusiasm for motorcycle road trips, a passion that saw him explore destinations such as Sturgis, Laughlan, Ignacio, and many other places aboard his Harley Davidson. His adventurous spirit and willingness to embrace new experiences extended to his entire family. Orlando was known for his warm greetings—answering the phone with a cheerful "Hey Now!" or "Good Morning Sunshine!"—which perfectly encapsulated the bright and friendly disposition that made him a joy to be around. His good humor could light up any room and uplift those fortunate to share time with him.
An avid outdoorsman, Orlando cherished hunting, fishing, camping, and spending quality time with his loved ones. He took particular joy in teaching his grandchildren how to ride the 4-wheeler, passing on his love of nature and the outdoors to the next generation. His family describes him as a man who embodied the motto "Work Hard and Play Hard," balancing his industrious nature with moments of fun and relaxation.
Orlando was a man of deep faith, committed to his Catholic beliefs and values. His generosity extended beyond his family, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Family was his proudest accomplishment—he held immense love and loyalty for his wife, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tonia Chacon; children Yolanda Baca (Miguel), Gwendolyn Chacon (Lawrence), Cielito Chacon (Ashley), and Aaron Chacon (Jennifer); grandchildren Isaac, Antonio, and Lauren Baca, Santos, Monica, Phelix, and Emiliana Suarez, Antonio, Nicholas, Julian, Cielito Jr., Laya, Myra, Ryan, and Kyree Chacon; great-grandchildren Dexter Baca and Valeria; siblings Tony Chacon (Mary Lou), Raymond Chacon, Carol Garcia, Johnny Chacon, Randy Baca, Sylvia Baca, and Geraldine Baca; cousins whom Orlando was very close with Leroy Chacon and Joey Chacon; his beloved goddaughter Shayla Voight, among many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and cherished friends.
He was predeceased by several beloved family members including niece Crystal Marie Baca; siblings Gladys Baca, Ray Baca, Lenora Herrera, Lorraine Maes, Delfino Chacon Jr., Eddie Chacon, and Peter Chacon; Mother Gregoria Vigil; stepfather Silviano Baca; and grandparents Jose Delfino and Todorita Chacon, along with others whose memories Orlando held dear.
A viewing to honor Orlando's life is scheduled for March 24, 2026, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, followed by a Rosary service from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Both events will be held at Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola, located at 305 Calle Salazar, Espanola, NM 87532. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00am March 26, 2026, at San Juan Bautista Parish in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will follow at La Villita Cemetery.
Orlando’s steadfast nature, his boundless generosity, and his joyful approach to life leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy will continue through the loving remembrance of his family and friends, the skills he mastered, and the countless lives he touched with kindness and warmth.
