Nathan Richard Hase

On Friday, August 8, 2025, Nathan Richard Hase passed away at the age of 92. He was the loving husband of Martha Jo, and father to Kristin and Kevin.

Nathan was born on January 25, 1933, in Elk City, Kansas, to Eugene Edgar and Pairidine (Mason) Hase. He married Martha Jo on June 5, 1960. Their daughter, Kristin Michelle, was born on February 4, 1963, and their son, Kevin Richard, was born on March 27, 1968.

Nathan served in the U.S. Army from April 27, 1953, to April 15, 1955, during the Korean War. He served as a machine gunner with Company F, 86th Infantry Regiment. After his military service, he used the GI Bill to pursue his education. He graduated from the Community College in Independence, Kansas, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1961.

Newly married, Nathan and Martha Jo lived in Kansas City in 1960. At the end of that summer, they moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where Nathan finished his engineering degree. In 1961 they moved to Lakewood, Colorado, where Nathan worked with the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1962 they relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Kristin was born the following February. In late 1963 they returned to Lakewood, Colorado, where Nathan resumed his career with the Bureau of Reclamation, and Kevin was born in March 1968. They made their home in Lakewood until 2021, then moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where they lived together until Nathan’s passing.

Nathan grew up attending the Nazarene Church in Elk City. He received an award for perfect attendance over his four years at Elk City High School. In Colorado, the family were active members of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lakewood for many years.

Living in Colorado, he was naturally a Broncos fan. He hunted during deer and elk seasons, and he fished any chance he had. After retirement, Nathan wanted to travel—and he and Martha did. They visited Kevin and Katharine in Maine, in California, and finally in New Mexico, and they enjoyed several other trips around the world.

Nathan is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Edgar Hase; mother, Pairidine Hase; and sisters, Betty (Hase) Ledbetter and Carolynn Sue (Hase) Rutowicz.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Jo Hase; daughter, Kristin Michelle and her husband, Tom Olsen, and their son, Matthew Raymond; son Kevin Richard and his wife, Katharine, and their children, Olivia Ruth Nicole and David Nathaniel.

There will be a memorial service at Crossroads Bible Church, at 10:30AM, Friday, August 15, 2025, in Los Alamos, New Mexico. A memorial in Colorado will take place on September 4, 2025, at the Stone House, 2900 S Estes St, Lakewood, CO 80227. Nathan will be inurned with military honors on October 3, 2025, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236 at 1:00 pm.
