Naomi May Cardenas, a beacon of warmth and unwavering devotion, passed away on June 15, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Taos, New Mexico. Born in February, in Taos, Naomi’s life blossomed into a tapestry rich with love, dedication, and an extraordinary spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A woman of remarkable grace and strength, Naomi epitomized the essence of kindness and compassion. Her nature was kind beyond words—happy, loving, nurturing, gentle, and calm. She was gifted with a keen intuition, an amazing ability to listen, and a heart that was nonjudgmental, protective, and accepting of everyone she encountered. Those who knew Naomi revered her not only for her beauty, both inside and out, but for her sharp wisdom and unique humor with her daughter, which effortlessly brightened the days of family and friends alike.

Naomi’s professional journey was marked by dedication and meticulous care. She served as an Office Manager at the Taos Foursquare Church and later contributed her talents in human resources with Community Against Violence. It was a special joy to work alongside her daughter at this organization, a testament to the close and cherished bond she shared with her family.

Family was indeed everything to Naomi. She was exactly the mother every child hopes for—steadfast, nurturing, and deeply loving. Her children, Camille and Josiah, were always foremost in her heart and mind, and she held the title of an exceptional mom with great pride. To her son Josiah, she was the enduring “rock” in his life. To her daughter Camille, she was both a confidante and a best friend, their daily conversations a cherished ritual filled with love and mutual respect. Her marriage to Richard, spanning an inspiring 45 years together and 43 years of marriage, was a foundation of love and partnership—she was, as remembered, a great negotiator to her husband and a soul intertwined with his.

Naomi’s home was imbued with faith, rooted deeply in her Christian beliefs, creating a sanctuary of spirituality and virtue for her family. She was also a culinary artist, remembered fondly for her exquisite cooking—her red chile and killer Arroz Con Pollo became legendary within their circle, especially during holiday celebrations where her generosity and talent shone brightest.

Her passions extended beyond her family and career. Naomi delighted in the delicate joys of nature, captivated by hummingbirds, butterflies, and dragonflies that danced like ethereal companions in her garden—a garden where her love for flowers, particularly roses, bloomed abundantly. Her favorite color was maroon, a hue reflecting the depth of her character, though she embraced all colors with the singular exception of yellow. The joy of music filled her soul, especially the vibrant rhythms of the 70s and 80s and the timeless allure of Elvis Presley, inspiring her love of dancing and celebration. A true adventurer at heart, Naomi relished travel and eagerly embraced new foods and fragrances, living life fully and encouraging others to savor every precious moment.

Naomi is survived by her husband Richard Cardenas; children Camille Rael (Daniel) and Josiah Cardenas (Kylie); her grandchildren Catalina, Luciano, Cristian, and Donovan. Her birth mother Esther Cordova (John); her siblings William "Billy" Martinez, Joseph "Jodge" Martinez, Darlene Tafoya (Alfred), Vivian Herrera (Augustin), Paco Cordova (Jessica), Soña Romero(Levi), along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Naomi is proceeded in Death by her Mother Josie Martinez and Father Benny Martinez, her brothers Michael "Maggie" Martinez, Filbert Herrera, and David Herrera.

Naomi May Cardenas’ memory is a luminous thread woven into the lives of those she loved: her devoted spouse Richard, her dear daughter Camille, and her beloved son Josiah—all of whom continue to carry forward her legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering love.

It is with profound respect and tender admiration that family and friends will gather to honor Naomi’s remarkable life and legacy at Bataan Hall in Taos, New Mexico. The memorial service will be held on June 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a gathering from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, where stories, laughter, and tears will commemorate a life lived with grace and purpose.

Naomi May Cardenas was a jewel in the fabric of her community, a nurturing soul who loved freely and fiercely, whose spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. She remains a shining example of love, dedication, and joy—a life beautifully lived, a legacy eternally cherished.
