Nancy Stevens Schultz, world traveler most recently of Taos, NM passed away on February 5, 2026. She died in peace surrounded by her husband Jim and son Adam, in a room filled with love.

Nancy was a mother, wife, friend, and advocate. She’d also tell you she was an imp. More than anything, she was real. She lived a rich life that could not be bought. Rare and unique, a child at heart, sometimes a bit shy but always courageous, she grew up in Seekonk, Massachusetts and made homes in the Bahamas, Manchester, Paris, London, Italy, and most recently Taos.

She was an organizer and a problem solver. She saved the cub scouts, created a summer camp for the kids of Annisquam, restored social life to the Hawksbill Creek Yacht Club, brought class and cuisine the Taos Opera Guild, introduced the Chinese to fried clams at Farnham’s, and used her Taos Opera Guild board position to make “Live at the MET” more than just a performance. She made things rich for others.

Graduating in 1965 from the University of Massachusetts in English, psychology, and social work, she went on to study art history at the Courthold Institute of Art and the history of design at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. A lifelong learner, Nancy studied Greek mythology, she loved a good spy novel, and she belonged to three book clubs. One of her joys was her knack for bringing people together with her knowledge, which she did with style and flair.

An artist and accomplished seamstress who loved fabric, knitting, quilting, and weaving, she cast her keen eye to the street markets of Paris for treasures that later appeared as unique and classy pieces that she would create for friends and her family. Jim and Nancy married in 1967. They shared a love of travel, camping, food, and wine. In the beginning they camped all over the US and Canada in a VW bus. For the last 20 years they have traveled throughout France and Italy in a caravan pulled by the intrepid Ms. Benz. Not only could Nancy take you to the best restaurant in any provincial French town, she’d know the owners and if you were with her, you were family.

Nancy is survived by her husband Jim, her son Adam, daughter in law Kelle, and three beautiful granddaughters Abbe, Zoe, and Maggie. It was a hell of a ride. We miss you. We love you.
