Mary Esmeralda
Montoya
1948 – February 22, 2026
Mary Esmeralda Montoya, a beloved soul whose spirit illuminated the lives of many, departed this world on February 22, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in 1948, Mary graced us with her presence for nearly eight decades, leaving behind a legacy of warmth that will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends.
A woman of undeniable elegance, Mary was known for her classy demeanor and exceptional style. Her husband, Pete Montoya, fondly remembers the countless hours she devoted to connecting with their daughters, son, and grandsons over long telephone conversations—sharing laughter, joy, and the wisdom of her years. This nurturing spirit reflected her caring nature, characterized by warmth, positivity, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
Mary embodied a life lived with purpose, guided by her mottos: “All you need is love” and “Don’t carry anger and hate in your hearts.” She earned the respect of everyone around her, cultivated a remarkable work ethic, and brought no negativity into her relationships. As one of nine siblings, she deeply understood the value of family, always placing it first. She took great pride in being a devoted mother to her children, Diana, Loriann, Lisa, and Peter, and a loving grandmother to Alejandro and Nathan, who were truly the apples of her eye.
Mary’s passions were as diverse as her interests. A true aficionado of old country music, she found solace in the harmonies—particularly those of Neil Diamond. A gifted cook and baker, she blessed her family with their favorite meals during special occasions, infusing each dish with love and care. Her garden, a testament to her nurturing spirit, flourished with vegetables and flowers alike, and her exceptional ability to grow orchids was widely admired. Mary also enjoyed the simple pleasures of woodcutting and dancing, activities that brought her joy and connection to the world around her.
Her deep-rooted faith profoundly influenced her life. Mary was a proud member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church and often felt drawn to the serene sanctuary of El Santuario de Chimayo. Her devotion shaped her character and instilled in her a sense of purpose: to always be present for her family, offering thoughtful and heartfelt guidance whenever they sought it.
As we honor Mary Esmeralda Montoya, we celebrate a life magnificently lived—reflecting the enduring values of love, respect, and kindness. She will forever be remembered for the indelible mark she left on our hearts and the many lessons she imparted through both her actions and her words.
Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Celso Suazo, Teoreta Archuleta, Chris Suazo, and Olivia Moreno. She is survived by her siblings, Julian Suazo, Joe Suazo, Magdalena Romero, and Cheryl Suazo.
