It is with deep sorrow and profound reverence that we announce the passing of Mary Marcella Calvert, a beloved mother, devoted wife, and cherished friend, who departed this world in peace on May 6, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on November 20, 1937, in Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico, Marcella's life was a tapestry woven with love, faith, and service.
Marcella dedicated her career to the noble vocation of nursing, earning her LPN certificate and demonstrating unwavering dedication at Espanola Hospital, St. Vincent’s, and St. Joseph's Hospital. Her compassionate care touched the lives of many, reflecting her kind, welcoming, and warm personality. She continued to serve others diligently until her retirement at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of empathy and kindness.
A devoted Catholic, Marcella found great joy in her faith and the community it fostered. Her love for church and spiritual growth was matched only by her passion for the great outdoors. In her earlier years, she cherished moments spent camping and fishing alongside her children and family, crafting a wealth of beautiful memories that will forever be held dear.
In 1965, Marcella exchanged vows with her beloved husband, Delfinio Calvert, a man who honorably served in the Navy for 21 years. Their union blossomed into a loving partnership that endured through the years, lasting an impressive 60 years. Together, they called various places home, from their time in San Diego, California, to Gallup, New Mexico, where they welcomed their daughter, Frances. Eventually, they settled in Albuquerque, where they created a nurturing and loving environment that reflected their shared values and deep commitment to family and faith.
Marcella is preceded in death by her dear parents, Elias and Rafaelita Cruz, her husband Delfinio, her son Matthew D. Calvert, her daughter Arlene R. Calvert-Rout, along with her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Tom Perez, her brother, Richard Cruz, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and John Calvert, brother George Yates, and her niece Denise M. Perez.
In this delicate fabric of life, she leaves behind her beloved daughter, Frances Calvert, alongside her faithful companion, Skylar the Chihuahua Mix, her sister-in-law Andrea Yates, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives have been enriched by her gentle spirit. A special thank you to Phyllis, Anna, Monica, Rexine, Tabitha, Josie and Elvie, the ladies who helped care for and prepare her for her services.
