Mark Joseph Lopez, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2026, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories and a legacy that resonates deeply within the hearts of those who knew him. Born on March 5, 1969 Mark's journey was marked by his unwavering love for his family and an insatiable passion for his career as an engineer.

Mark dedicated his professional life to the craft of engineering, contributing his incredible talents to countless homes, streets, buildings, and land layouts across New Mexico. Particularly in Santa Fe, his designs stand as a testament to his gifted mind and a legacy that will endure, shaping the lives and environments of many. His education, culminating in a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering after graduating from Santa Fe High School in 1987, laid the foundation for a career marked by both creativity and precision.

Beyond the realms of his profession, Mark was a true outdoorsman at heart. He had an unquenchable spirit for adventure, delighting in snowboarding trips with his son, riding motorcycles, and embracing the beauty of nature through hiking and camping. Those who knew him will fondly remember the scent of grilled delicacies wafting through the air on warm summer days, as Mark showcased his prowess as a grill master, imbuing every gathering with joy and laughter. Music was another integral part of Mark's soul; he thrived at concerts, sharing euphoric moments with friends and family while immersing himself in the magic of melodies.

Mark's personality shone with a warmth that could light up any room. He was a gregarious spirit with a big heart, known for his loyalty and kindness. Friends were abundant, and he took pride in fostering these relationships throughout New Mexico. He was an embodiment of strength and intelligence, often reflecting on life with the wisdom of a fighter who understood both the fragility and the beauty of existence. He wielded a heart of gold yet bold in conviction, he was always eager to lend a hand or spark a conversation, finding joy in connecting with people from all walks of life.

At the core of Mark's being was his unwavering love for his family. He was immensely proud of his son, Mark Lopez, Jr., and his cherished granddaughters, Autumn and Sophia. Their laughter filled his heart, guiding him to be the best father and grandfather he could be. His love for them shined brightly as they created countless memories together, each moment a thread woven into the rich fabric of their shared lives.

In addition to his surviving son and granddaughters, Mark leaves behind his devoted mother, Teresita Lopez, along with brothers Alan and Andrew Lopez and sisters Peggy Rodriguez (Benny), Patty Tapia (Ray), and Doris Robinson (Gary). A multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends will also carry his spirit forward, holding tight to the lessons learned and the joy he imparted.
