Mariana Catanach

Mariana Catanach (94) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 21, 2025, after a long illness. Mariana maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, sense of humor, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends. She also expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.

Mariana was born in Boise City, Oklahoma, to Florinda G. and Roman L. Gallegos. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Walter J Van Sickle, M.D. and F. Albert Catanach, by brothers Gabriel and Donato, and sister Anamelia and brothers-in-law Romeo and Don.

Mariana is survived by her children Wanda, Steven (Kathie) and Gail (Albert). Her grandchildren Steve, Stephanie (Saul), Jared, Anthony, Eric (Katie), Robert (Hailey) and great grandchildren Madelyn, Nathan, Natalie, and Sophia. Surviving her are sisters Patsy and Isabel and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mariana would like to thank everyone for attending her Life Ceremony and the visits over the last several weeks. Mariana and her children thank everyone who brought food, flowers, conversation, prayers, and support. She considered these visits her eulogy.

The family would like to thank Presbyterian Hospital ER and ICU providers (Romell, Hadith, Dr. Lutz, Dr. Brizendine, Dr. Leamon, the radiology and respiratory departments, and many others) and Presbyterian Hospice (Win, Dolores, Jeff, Cindy, Deeanna, Lisa, Dr. Johnson) for their care, support and prayers.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, visitation begins at 9:45 am, a rosary follows at 10:00 am and with her Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Rosario Cemetery.
