Marian Elise Scott, age 88, passed away on January 4th, 2026, in Taos, New Mexico, five years to the date of her husband’s passing in 2021.

She was born on August 5th, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa to Arthur E. Postel and Lillie M. Postel. She was raised in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School in 1955. She graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1959. It was there she met her husband, Robert J Scott. They were married August 16th, 1959, and had two children, Clifford and Andrew.

She taught Junior High English in the early years of her marriage in Madison, Wisconsin and Roswell, New Mexico lastly, where the couple had moved for Bob’s first job as a petroleum geologist. Her last job was in San Antonio, Texas accompanying a young girl all four years of high school as a tutor/school assistant which she immensely enjoyed.

Marian and Bob enjoyed visiting extended family and friends in the Quad Cities area of Davenport, Iowa and Moline, Illinois. They attended their high school and college reunions faithfully throughout their married lives. They both loved antiquing during family vacations and weekend excursions. They were faithful members of St. Andrews Methodist Church and Marian enjoyed involvement with United Methodist Women. Marian was part of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Petroleum Club in Midland and San Antonio, Texas where she met and maintained lasting friendships.

She will always be remembered for proudly proclaiming her German heritage on both sides of family, the Struve’s and Postel’s. Although relishing the lifestyles of the 1950’s and her role as a homemaker, she never stopped reading or writing. She often submitted articles and poetry to the Infoblatt- a publication of the German American Heritage Center and Museum in Davenport, as well as her hometown newspaper, harking back to her days spent there as a feature writer.

She loved everything pretty and blue, chocolate, collecting Nancy Drew books, Christmas traditions, attending live theatre, treating the grandchildren, lunch at Scrivener’s of San Antonio, weekly hair appointments, proper etiquette and her boys sharing their musical talents.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Bob Scott, her parents Arthur and Lillie Postel, her brothers Carl Postel and Art Postel, sister-in-laws: Catherine Postel, Georgette Postel, Norma Postel, Diane Kammerzelt, brother-in-law Jim Kammerzelt and niece Carolyn Carpenter.

She is survived by her two sons, Cliff Scott and his wife, Sherry, and Andy Scott and his wife, Kahley; her grandchildren, Madison, Colton, Tyler and his wife, Stephanie, Riley, and Aubry; her niece, Veronica Postel; her nephews, Greg Postel and his wife, Sally, Jeff Kammerzelt and his wife, Anna, and Steve Kammerzelt and his wife, Lindsay; and her great-nieces and great-nephews.

The staff and residents of Taos Enchanted Village mourn her passing and will always remember her manners, graciousness, fierceness at Bingo, expressive poetry readings and her hilarious inquiries of the 13th century poet Rumi.
