Maria Graves, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her home on July 23, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on November 3, 1945, in the picturesque town of Taos, New Mexico, Maria was the only child of her parents, who nurtured in her a deep love for family and a bountiful spirit that touched everyone she met.

Maria was known as the sweetest person, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her innate kindness and endless empathy made her a friend to many; there were no strangers in her heart. She worked tirelessly, often going above and beyond for those she loved, and her ability to bend over backward for family and friends was truly remarkable.

As a devoted mother of five boys—Robert, Roy, John, Richard, and Boyd—Maria excelled not just in nurturing her sons but also in embracing her role as an amazing mother-in-law to two wonderful daughters-in-law. Her proudest accomplishments resonated in the bonds she built with her family, each thread delicately woven into a tapestry of love and support.

Maria’s culinary skills were unmatched; holidays in her home were nothing short of feast days, filled with rich desserts and hearty meals that brought everyone together. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and preparing simple yet delicious dishes that infused warmth into the hearts of those fortunate enough to gather around her table. An adventurous spirit, Maria was at home both indoors and outdoors, finding joy in listening to old country music and feeding birds, sharing her love for nature with those around her. In quiet moments, she would indulge her passion for reading, often losing herself in the stories that reflected the beauty of life.

A proud member of the Colcha Club Business, Colchas De Taos, Maria showcased her talents through handmade bedspreads, displaying a creativity that mirrored her vibrant personality. Maria leaves behind her loving sons, grandchildren Kayla, Carlos, and Madison, along with her cousin/son, Jimmy Graves. Her passing is deeply felt by all who knew her, including many friends who cherished her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought into their lives.

Although Maria has joined her parents, grandparents, and her beloved husband Buddy Graves, her legacy of love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
