Margaret Peggy Worth Mummey

Margaret Worth Mummey Margaret (Peggy) Worth Fairchild Mummey of Taos, NM, a retired registered nurse, died on December 11, 2016 in Taos. She was 91. She was born Margaret Helen Worth on January 18, 1925, in Denver, CO. She graduated from North High School and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. In 1949, she married Kenneth Fairchild of New York. They were divorced in 1983. Peggy worked as a professional nurse for many years in hospitals in Greenwich, CT; Farmington, ME; and in Denver, CO at St. Luke’s Hospital, the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Rocky Mountain Arsenal and Fitzsimons. She was also employed at the VA Regional Office in the department of counseling and rehabilitation for several years. She retired in 1992 from Children’s Hospital, where she was a senior secretary in the section of adolescent medicine. She married James F. Mummey of Florida in October 1992, residing in FL during the winter months and in Aurora, CO during the warmer months. They divorced in 2001. She is survived by her two daughters, Christine Fairchild of Ranchos de Taos, NM and Lynn Ann Fairchild of Midsund, Norway and by her son-in-law, Tormod Skarsbo, also of Norway. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Augustana Lutheran Church, Older Women’s League and National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees. An avid lover of the mountains, she was a skier and long time member of the CO Mountain Club. She also enjoyed needlework, gourmet cooking, traveling, fishing and snorkeling. From 1978 until 2014, she resided in Heather Gardens in Aurora, CO and was active in that community. In 2014, Peggy moved to Taos, NM to be near her daughter, Christine. She resided at the Taos Retirement Village in Taos where she often enjoyed live music and singing with her daughter. A memorial gathering will take place in Aurora, CO in 2017. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Mummey’s honor may be given to EbenEzer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO.
