Marc David Martin, born on May 8, 1959 in Montreal, Canada, passed unexpectedly on August 24, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His passing brings sorrow to all who knew him. Marc lived a life marked by kindness, warmth, and a spirit that drew people in. Marc was known as a caring man with an ever-present smile and a positive outlook that could brighten any room. Marc could talk to anyone. He carried himself with generosity of heart, and his presence left a lasting impression on family, friends, and students.

Education and teaching were central to Marc’s life. He earned a BS in sociology from the University of Ottawa, an AS in Business Education from the Florida Southwestern State College, and held several teaching certifications. Marc worked in the airline industry and business, but loved teaching. As a teacher at Pojoaque High School, he gave not only his knowledge, but also his encouragement, patience, and steady care. His students were among the bright lights of his life, and he brought to the classroom the same warmth and positivity that defined him. He was the kind of teacher who was remembered not simply for lessons taught, but for the way he made others feel seen and supported.

Marc embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He loved Canada and loved the USA, carrying with him an appreciation for both places that shaped his story. He spoke fluent French, and he moved through the world with openness and delight. A devoted hockey fan and coach, he found joy in the game, and his love for O Canada was evident in all he did. He was a golfer and avid SCUBA diver who looked forward to annual Cayman Island vacations with friends, where adventure and beauty awaited him. Travel was one of his great pleasures, and he and Jo traveled the world together, building a life rich with shared memories and discovery; their latest adventure to Nova Scotia with dear friends.

Jo, his loving wife, was one of the bright lights in his life, and the bond they shared was evident in the life they built together. At home, with Jo, he was a devoted dog rescuer, and together they opened their hearts and home with compassion. He will be missed by his rescue dogs, Baylee and Emmie, who were part of the loving circle he helped create.

Marc is survived by his beloved spouse, Joanne Skrivan Martin. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers Paul Martin and Paul’s partner, Lise Lacaille; Gérald Martin; Philippe Martin and his partner, Sylvain Joly; Robert Martin; and by his sister Louise Martin and her partner, Pierre Deschamps. He is survived by his niece Chloé Houlton and her partner, Cody Lirette, and by his nephew Louis Noah Houlton. Each of them carries forward cherished memories of Marc’s warmth, humor, generosity, and unmistakable light.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Ann Beauvais, and by his father, Robert Martin. Their memory remained part of the story of his life.
