Malcolm Johnson Schnitker, 89, was born on October 7, 1936 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Norman Robert and Mae Eloise (nee Johnson) Schnitker. He attended Prescott High School in Prescott, Arizona. In 1960, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources and Range Management from the University of Arizona, College of Agriculture. Upon graduation, he began his career with the Bureau of Land Management, starting as a Range Conservationist and member of the Wildland Firefighting Crew. Malcolm also spent 6 years as a private first class in the US Army Reserves.

Malcolm met and married Katie Bowser of Phoenix, Arizona. The Lord blessed this union with two daughters, Jennifer Bultman and Rebecca Vollmer. His career took Malcolm, Katie and family to Oakland, CA, Safford, AZ, Boise, ID, Phoenix, AZ, Washington, DC, and finally to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he retired as Deputy State Director of Renewable Resources.

His service to his church (Immanual Evangelical Lutheran Church) included Congregational President, Elder, and the Chair of many boards. Malcolm also enjoyed volunteering at the Santa Fe Food Depot and Pete’s Place Homeless Shelter.

For several years following his retirement, Malcolm and Katie traveled many miles in their RV visiting National Parks and touring the six Westward Expansion Trails. They were long-time members of the Santa Fe Trail Association. Survivors include his wife Katie, two daughters Jennifer (Darrell) Bultman of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Rebecca Vollmer of Santa Fe, New Mexico, five grandchildren, William (Caylin) Bultman, Emily (Trevor) Davis, Jacob Bultman, Madison Vollmer and Faith (Jonathan Trujillo) Vollmer and 2 great grandchildren, Parker Davis and Phoenyx Trujillo.

Malcolm's wife and daughters would like to thank his church family, many dear friends and relatives for prayers and support during this time.

In memory of Malcolm, please consider volunteering or donating to the Santa Fe Food Depot.

Services will be held at Immanual Lutheran Church, 209 E Barcelona Rd, Santa Fe, NM on Monday, January 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Rivera Cemetery, 417 East Rodeo Rd. Santa Fe, NM.
