It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lynda L. Burd, a woman of limitless love, energy and creativity. Lynda was born November 29th, 1947, and adopted shortly thereafter by her loving parents, Henry and Virginia Walling on December 10th, 1947. She transitioned out of this life on July 4th, 2026. Throughout her journey of 78 years, she touched so many with her energy, light, humor and love.
All of her life, Lynda was driven by her creative spirit and artistic talents. She was also a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, friend and pet parent. This bright energy which lit and characterized her path was inspiring and contagious to all those who had the privilege to know her.
As a child Lynda lived with her parents in Denver, Colorado. She and her family were active members of South Broadway Christian Church, a community that became close lifelong friends to she and her family members. She attended South High School in Denver and later attended college at Rocky Mountain School of Art, the Art Institute in San Francisco, and Phillips University. Lynda was also very active as a youth director and camp counselor for the Disciples of Christ Church in Colorado, Arizona and California.
It was during her time as a youth group director and camp counselor in the church, that she met her husband Jerry. In fact, when they married in 1984, it was at the main chapel at the camp they both loved so much, La Foret near Colorado Springs. Together they lived in Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon and finally, New Mexico. In 1999, they moved to New Mexico to begin the process of purchasing Black Mesa Winery where they have lived and worked ever since. Through the winery and through Lynda’s art, they became a vibrant and vital part of the community in northern New Mexico touching many lives, local businesses and local charities.
In addition to her parents, Lynda was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in law, Don and Kay Walling.
Lynda is survived by her husband Jerry Burd and daughters Sara McCann and Jeni McCann. She is also survived by her grandson and three granddaughters; Kristian, Morgan, Elizabeth and Maddie and her nephews Vince and Ray.
We would be remiss not to mention her beloved pets who she also leaves behind; Spirit, Brie, Queso, Muscat, Rose, Rudy and Sola.
Lynda’s legacy will be one of humor, passion, kindness, art, activism and legendary Halloween parties. Her beautiful memory will be carried forward by those who were so very blessed to know her. She will be greatly missed, forever remembered and her remarkable life will be an unending inspiration and testament to the power of kindness, creativity and unconditional love.
A celebration of life service will be hosted by her family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Lynda’s legacy of her love for animals and children. Please make a donation to your local animal shelter or local charity supporting the health and wellbeing of children in her honor. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
