Lupita Espinoza, 88, was born and raised in Las Cruces, NM, with three brothers and three sisters. She met Gustavo Espinoza in Las Cruces, where he attended college. They were married in 1960, when he brought her to Questa. They were married for 57 years until her “Love” passed away. She continued to keep track of the years they would have been married (66) and still wore her wedding ring. They raised three children: John (Ulysis) Espinoza, Tina (Randy) Cisneros, and Jeff (Anna) Espinoza.
She had five grandchildren: Alicia (Dalton Oakley) Cisneros, Erik (Karli Wilson) Cisneros, Jonathan and Annie Espinoza, and Renee Espinoza.
She had three great-grandchildren: Lyanna and Alexx Vigil, Shiloh Cisneros, and one on the way.
She worked for the U.S. Government for over 40 years. These included White Sands Missile Range for two years and the Questa Ranger Forest Service for 40 years. She was always called Mama Bear by her coworkers.
She loved making handmade blankets. She loved walking to keep her heart in shape, and she loved sweets and red wine. She also loved going to the casino, mainly to talk to people. She had a lot of friends. Her favorite saying when you asked how she was doing was, “Fair to partly cloudy, but mostly cloudy!” She had a strong faith in God and the Church, and if she couldn’t go to church, she would follow it on TV. She was hardly ever angry and knew how to handle tough situations. She was very well-loved by many people.
A service will be held on November 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Rivera Chapel in Taos.
