Lucy Ruth Martinez, beloved homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 81, in Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico. Lucy was born on February 9, 1944, in Counselors, New Mexico, where she developed her deep appreciation for family and the great outdoors.
Throughout her life, Lucy devoted herself to her family as a loving mother and homemaker. Known for her kind and caring personality, she always made sure her children were well taken care of, ensuring that they had nourishing meals and a warm home. Lucy relished spending time with children; her gentle spirit and helpful nature made her a reliable figure for those around her.
Beyond her nurturing roles, she enjoyed various hobbies and interests that brought her immense joy. Lucy loved to read and took daily walks, often engaging in delightful conversations with neighbors and friends. Her love for the outdoors led her to cherish camping and fishing trips, and she had a special fondness for animals, particularly horses. Music played an important role in her life, with Classic Country being her favorite genre, bringing her comfort and happiness.
Lucy's legacy will continue through her loving family members. She is survived by her son, Raymond B. Martinez, and his wife Julie Martinez; daughter, Bonnie M. Williams, and her husband Antonio Williams; son, Kenneth M. Martinez, and his wife Pao Chai Cheng; brother, Leroy Keetso; sister, Carol Byrd; grandchildren Jarrod and Jessica Villareal, Skylor Garcia, Alexander, Angela, and Andrew Martinez, Wesley Williams, and Lisa Ann Dishta; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will hold her memory dear.
Lucy is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M. Martinez; parents, Bert and Lola Keetso; her father-in-law, Myles H. Martinez; her mother-in-law, Julia G. Martinez; and siblings, Johnny Keetso, James Keetso, and Doris Keetso.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lucy's life and legacy during the following services. A Rosary will be held on May 16, 2025, at Rivera Family Funerals & Cremations of Espanola, starting at 4:30 PM, followed by the burial service at Santa Fe National Cemetery on May 19, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM.
Serving as Pallbearers: Alexander Martinez, Andrew Martinez, Jarrod Villareal, Skylor Garcia, Melvin Dishta and Antonio Gutierrez.
Lucy will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and passion for life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
