Lucy Chavez, born on February 19, 1927, in Pajarito, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to be in the arms of her loving husband, Charlie, and to be with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived a long life marked by devotion, warmth, and a deep and steady faith.
Lucy was an amazing housewife who poured her love into the daily rhythms of home and family. She cooked wonderful meals for those she loved, creating comfort and togetherness around her table. Her home reflected the same care she gave to the people in her life; the house was always immaculate, a quiet testament to her pride, discipline, and loving touch.
She found joy in simple and beautiful things. Lucy loved gardening and reading, and she also enjoyed macrame. She was especially proud of her garden, which surely reflected the patience and care she carried within her. She loved the color pink, and she loved cats, small details that speak gently to the sweetness of her spirit. She was a great gardener and an avid reader, always drawn to beauty, growth, and reflection.
Those who knew Lucy will remember her reading her books all the time. She had a strong belief in her faith and religion, and that faith shaped the way she lived and loved.
Lucy is survived by her son, John Chavez, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Chavez; by her daughter, Donna Johnson; and by her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Garcia, Selina Chavez, Thomas Johnson, DJ Johnson, and Josh Chavez. Each of them carries forward cherished memories of her love, her care, and the warmth that made her so special.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Chavez, whose memory remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Lucy Chavez will be remembered with a smile. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the home she tended, the meals she prepared, the garden she cherished, and the faith that guided her all her days.
