Leonard E. Van De Valde was born in Albuquerque, NM on October 22, 1927, to Stella and Richard Van De Valde. He passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM on December 19, 2025, at the age of 98.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Jean Van De Valde; his daughter, Vicky Van De Valde; and his sons: Jimmy Bowlin, Wesley, Terry, and David Van De Valde. He is survived by his son, Billy Van De Valde; his daughter, Steph Addington; and his grandchildren: Dawn Ash (husband Jeremiah), Justin Addington, Shawna Esquibel (husband Toby), Angela Baca (husband Jude), Sarah Van De Valde, Jodi Van De Valde, Monique Baca (husband Julian), and Twyla Lopez (husband James). He also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Leonard was a man of many talents and strong work ethic. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a photographer from 1946-1947. He was also a Scoutmaster when his boys were young, teaching them and others practical life skills, leadership, and how to be both prepared and responsible. Lessons he lived by every day.

Throughout his working years, he held many roles, including electrician and a heavy equipment operator, before finding his true calling as a welder. In 1976, he became the owner of his own business, Leonard’s Ornamental Iron, a testament to his skill and dedication. He officially retired in 1998 after selling the business to his son, Bill.

In his retirement, Leonard discovered a love for wood working, He poured his creativity into making meaningful gifts for his loved ones, including wooden teddy bear plaques, candlestick and napkin holders as well as Christmas Ornaments. Each piece a lasting reminder of his love and craftsmanship. Leonard will be remembered for his talents, his hardworking spirit, and the legacy of love he leaves behind through the many generations of his family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fiesta Park Wellness & Rehabilitation in Albuquerque and the Corus Hospice team for taking such compassionate care of Leonard during his end-of-life journey. Services will be held at Rivera’s Family Funeral Home, 417 Rodeo Road in Santa Fe, on Friday January 23, 2026, beginning at 11a.m., with burial to follow.
