It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lee "Lilo" Romero, a beloved member of the Llano Quemado community, who left this world on July 11, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on February 4, 1960, Lee was the youngest of 15 children born to Hipolito and Lila Romero. His life’s journey was marked by unwavering faith, relentless hard work, and a genuine compassion for others.
Lee served his country honorably in the United States Navy, embodying the values of duty and dedication that defined his character throughout his life. A proud lifelong resident of Llano Quemado, Lee was not only a skilled carpenter but also a hardworking individual who approached every task with care and integrity. His craftsmanship was a testament to his love for woodworking, a hobby he cherished alongside fishing, where he found joy in the serenity of nature.
A strong Christian, Lee's faith served as a guiding light through the struggles of life. He was a God-fearing man who often shared inspirational scriptures, reminding everyone around him of the importance of hope and positivity. His kindness and compassion will be remembered by many, as he always lent a helping hand to friends, family, and even strangers in need.
Lee is survived by five loving children: Hope Romero, Yawshua Lee Romero (Amira), Paul Romero, Ashley Padilla (Ryan Ortiz), and Andrew Padilla (Cassandra). His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Rosalinda Leela Romero, Septimus Romero, Aurelius Romero, Isela Padilla, and Andrew Padilla Jr. Lee’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, as well as the mother of his children, Rita Baldibiesa.
He is also survived by his devoted brothers, David Romero, Wayne Romero (Rachel), and Roger Romero (Margaret), along with his sisters Erla Archuleta, Patsy Romero, and Peggy Ward (Stein). The deep bonds of family extend to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will carry forward his memory and values.
Lee is preceded in death by his cherished parents, Hipolito Romero and Lila Chavez Romero, as well as his brothers, Max Romero, Paul Romero, Glen Romero, Isaac Romero, Robert Gonzales, and sisters Elba Aguilar, Christella Grabowski, Juanita Romero, and Imelda Romero. The love and memories shared with those who have passed before him now welcome him into eternal peace.
A funeral service to celebrate Lee's remarkable life will be held on July 24, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Rivera Family Funerals & Cremations of Taos, followed by a burial on July 25, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
As we gather to honor Lee "Lilo" Romero, let us remember his hardworking spirit, his honest heart, and the caring soul that touched so many lives. His positive outlook on life and generosity will forever be embraced in our memories. Lee will be dearly missed but will continue to inspire through the memories and love he leaves behind.
