Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lee Charles Elder, who departed peacefully on May 23, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following a brief illness. Born on November 27, 1935, in Selma, California, Lee lived a life rich in experience, warmth, and an enduring spirit of connection.

Lee was a man whose presence was marked by his genuine agreeableness and unwavering support to those around him. His personality was as vibrant as the many stories he carried—a treasure trove of life experiences he generously shared. Gregarious by nature, he delighted in gathering with others, weaving tales and engaging in lively conversation, creating moments of joy and reflection for all who had the privilege to listen.

A passionate reader with a zest for knowledge, Lee’s intellectual curiosity spanned an impressive breadth of topics. He lamented the scarcity of curiosity in the world and sought always to inspire others to explore and learn. This love for learning fueled his thoughtful and insightful demeanor, making his companionship both enriching and memorable.

Lee is survived by his loving partner, Mary Schultz, and his two  sons, David Elder and Scott Elder. He will be deeply missed by  all whose lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy McDougal and his parents Leland and Dorothy Elder.

Lee Charles Elder’s legacy is one of kindness, knowledge, and storytelling, a legacy that continues to inspire and comfort those who knew him. His life stands as a testament to the joy of connection and the power of shared stories. In celebrating Lee's remarkable journey, we remember a man who truly loved to sit, talk, and share the rich tapestry of life.
