Laurie Logan Scott Bender died peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on July 29, 2026 in Taos, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, L.E. Bender III and her parents Mary Owen Dean Scott and Logan Scott.

She is survived by her daughter Kirstie MacDonald Scott and son Logan Elliot Bender as well as her grandchildren Cesca-Maria Segarra and Athena Renèe Bender.

Laurie was the youngest of five Scott sisters, Polly, Midge, Bonnie, and Dicksy Scott. Laurie grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. At five years old, Laurie travelled around the world with her sisters led by her mommy, and she remembered a sense of awe upon gazing at the Taj Mahal in India.

At the age of twenty, she started a new life with her husband and 8-month-old daughter in Mons, Belgium where she completed her education at the University of Maryland in Political Science and gave birth to her son. She moved to West Seattle, Washington in 1974 where she raised her children and she worked for King County as a budget analyst. Later she worked in finance and environmental consulting with CCA, inc. who helped develop several recycling and environmental programs throughout Washington State. In 1998, she relocated to Wheeler, Oregon with her husband and opened a herbal apothecary. They moved to Taos, New Mexico in 2007 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Laurie was creative in working with her hands and would make intricate Victorian costumes and could out knit the best. She held a deep belief in her connection to nature and the universe as well as her Scottish heritage. She wouldn’t pass on a good country dance and a gin and tonic. Laurie was a quiet person and leaves behind some dear friends and her cat Misty. She will be missed greatly.
