Kathryn "Kitty" Clare Sherlock passed away December 8, 2025. Kitty was born on January 21, 1943, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to John and Vivian Sherlock. Her father was born and raised in New Orleans and her mother in Apalachicola, Florida. Because they were a military family, Kitty attended various schools around the United States and graduated high school in Heidelberg.
Germany. She received her bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University. There she met and married Bahman Mohajerin. They welcomed their daughter Leila while living in Corpus Christi, Texas. After they divorced, Kitty attended graduate school at Florida State University where she received her master's degree in library science.
Her first library position was in Maryland. She returned to Florida State and received her doctoral degree in instructional design. Kitty then taught at Auburn University and University of Georgia before moving to Santa Fe in 1984.
She was the first librarian at Santa Fe Community College. Kitty eventually worked for the New Mexico State Public Education Department in various roles including as library consultant and in bilingual education. She took delight in working with children and was always striving to empower others. She retired in 2007 and enjoyed writing, painting, and traveling. During her work years and throughout retirement, Kitty was a passionate advocate for socia change and was active in both the Santa Fe chapter of RESULTS and in the Unitarian Universalist Santa Fe congregation. In February 2000, Kitty met Ruth Hoffman. They celebrated their love with a commitment ceremony in August of 2002 and were married September 2008 in San Diego.
Kitty is survived by her loving wife, Ruth; her daughter Leila Jackson, son-in-law Henry, and granddaughter Julia Jackson of North Carolina; her sister Ellen Amate, brother-in-law Frank and their extended family, and brother Stephen Michael Sherlock of Florida.
She is also survived by Ruth's daughters Rachel Worlin (Mark) and Kate Mundy-Castle (Charles): grandchildren Sophie Marks (Brandon) and Seth Mundy-Castle; and great-grandchildren Myer and Monroe Marks. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Kerrigan Sherlock.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on December 17, 2025 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 107 W Barcelona Rd,
