Judith Beck Workman, age 84, died peacefully September 24, 2025 at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born August 12, 1941 to Joseph and Ida Beck, Judith was the youngest of three daughters (Myrna and Carol having predeceased Judith) all growing up in Quincy Massachusetts. Judy (as her friends and family knew her) attended Lesley University in Cambridge where she met Joseph Workman (1934-2018) who was attending M.I.T. The two later married, had two sons, Jonathan and Jeremiah, and eventually moved to Berkeley California in 1972 where they lived in the same home for nearly 50 years building very strong community ties. As a loving mother and wife, Judy was devoted to her children to the day of her passing and devoted to her husband until the day of his passing and beyond. As a grandmother, she was engaged, loving and generous. Judy and Joe loved to travel and were able to visit many locations throughout the world including her maternal grandparents’ village in Ukraine. A passion for cooking allowed Judy to be the perfect host for spectacular parties at her home, entertaining locals as well as many of Joe’s business associates. Judy had a strong passion for the theatre, art, music and history and as such was a generous supporter of the performing arts in the San Francisco Bay area. Judy was on the board of directors for Humanities West in San Francisco, organizing lectures and performances related to art and history. A longtime opera fan Judy supported the San Francisco Opera and served as the director of the board for West Edge Opera in Berkeley. In the summer of 2021 Judy moved to Santa Fe to be closer to family, enjoying time with her sons and grandchildren and establishing new ties with this community. Judy enjoyed the Santa Fe Opera and performances at the Lensic and became a generous supporter of the performing arts in Santa Fe. Judy was a woman of fantastic energy, passion and spirit; she will be missed dearly.

Judy is survived by her two sons, Jonathan (married to Sara) and Jeremiah (married to Nichole) and by her 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Angela, China, Christopher and Viola as well as step grandchild Isaac.

A celebration of life is being planned for the Santa Fe area in the new year. Please respond to judysf41@gmail.com expressing any interest in attending.
