Listen to Obituary

Joseph Roybal lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a devoted son, loyal brother, cherished uncle, and trusted friend. The youngest son of Jose and Carmelita “Lena” Roybal, he was known for his warm personality and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.

A proud graduate of Santa Fe High School, Joseph worked for the State of New Mexico Public Education Department as an IT Network Specialist. He was a connoisseur of New Mexico wines and, after retirement, developed a passion for photography.

Joseph was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a faithful attendee of Saturday mass. He deeply valued his friendships, especially the companionship of his longtime friend, Joseph Montoya.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Johnny Loveless; his sisters, Ruby Loveless Montoya and Catherine Nichols; and his nephew and godson, Erin Nichols.

He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Roybal and Jane Gonzales; his brother-in-law, Patrick Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews. His humor, love of holiday decorations, and enjoyment of Italian food will especially be missed by his niece Megin. His caring nature and gentle spirit touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services for Joseph will be held on Friday, June 26, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe. The rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment of his ashes at Rosario Cemetery will follow the Mass, with a reception afterward in the church parish hall
