Jose Leonard Maestas

Leonard passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, after a courageous and short battle with cancer.

He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew him.

Born on August 25,1949 to Virginia Maestas in Santa Fe NM

Leonard was known for his generous spirit and his kind, loving heart. He never met a stranger and made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, taking drives through the mountains, and gathering firewood with his longtime companions, Hilario and Joseph. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. He also loved dancing and never missed an opportunity to attend family gatherings and celebrations.

Leonard was a man of simple pleasures. Whether at home or dining out, his favorite meals were always breakfast or a comforting plate of beans and chili.

He dedicated many years of service to Wolf Corporation of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he worked until his retirement.

Leonard was preceded in death by his mother Virginia his sister’s Donna & Lorraine, his mother-in-law Irene Maez, and his brother-in-law David Maez.

He is survived by his devoted partner of many years, Dolores Maez, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply and cared for as his own family.

Brian (Annette), Christine (John), and Lee (Kimberley). He was a loving grandfather to Martina, Tristen, Taylor, and Miliana, and a proud great-grandfather to Trinity, Johnathan, Jeremy, and Matthew. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Joseph Maez sister in-law Mabel Maez and father-in-law Hilario Maez, with whom he shared many treasured memories.

He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Sonya), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who spoke of him with great affection and shared many fond memories.

Leonard's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family and friends
