John E. Murphy (August 22, 1940 - October 18, 2026)

John E. Murphy, 86, of Santa Fe passed away on October 18, 2026. A constant resident of New Mexico since 1970, he lived in Santa Fe from 1970 to 1981, and again from 2004 to his death. In the interim, he resided in Farmington, New Mexico. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, he began Basic Training in the U.S. Army only days after performing as a ballroom dancer on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1960. After his service, he attended College of Santa Fe. He was employed at St Vincent’s Hospital as well as San Juan Regional Medical Center. He regularly attended Sunday worship services in the St Francis Cathedral and frequented local restaurants, particularly The Shed, The Pantry and Clafoutis. A loving father, brother and son, he was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his children, Mark (and his wife, Rene), Heather and Robin (and her wife, Michele), his younger brother Daniel, brother-in-law and childhood friend, Fred Conti, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loving knew him as “Uncle Jack.” For several years, he was a volunteer at Kitchen Angels and a docent at the New Mexico Museum of Art. He enjoyed traveling anyplace sunny, gardening, thrift store shopping and a martini after five o’clock. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will occur at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kitchen Angels, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society.
