Joann Veronica Ortiz

Joann was a kind, hardworking, and generous soul who took tremendous pride in her family. She was always willing

and ready to help in any way she could and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family was at the center of Joann's life, and her grandchildren held an especially important place in her heart. She

cared for them, loved them, guided them, and always made sure they knew they could count on her. Her grandchildren

always came first.

Joann and Julian's home was always filled with children and grandchildren, their friends, neighborhood kids,

neighbors, and friends. Their door was always open, and everyone was welcomed into their home. So many people

have memories of spending time there and being made to feel like part of the family.

Joann shared a beautiful life with her husband, Julian. They were first married on September 3, 1967, in Chihuahua,

Mexico, and were married again on May 9, 1977, in San Juan, New Mexico. Together, they shared 46 years of

marriage.

Mondays were Joann and Julian's special day together. They spent their Mondays paying bills, buying groceries,

running errands, and often having lunch with Julian's brother, Frank Ortiz, and his wife, Angela.

Joann was an incredibly hardworking woman. She worked at Rancho de Chimayo for 30 years, where she brought

many of her children and grandchildren in for their very first jobs. She also worked at Cities of Gold for 15 years.

Throughout those years, Joann formed many close friendships that she cherished dearly.

Joann enjoyed traveling with Julian and their siblings, especially their trips to Las Vegas, Nevada. She loved going to

the casino and playing bingo, often accompanied by her daughter Yvonne and her sisters Elizabeth, Lydia, Arlene,

and Kathy, with whom she shared a very close bond.

Some of Joann's greatest joys came from simply being with her family. She loved watching her grandchildren's

basketball games and cheerleading, barbecuing during the summer months, and having her home filled with the

people she loved.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Alfredo Vigil; her beloved husband, Julian D. Ortiz; her

daughters, Gina Annette Vigil and Julie Romero; her brother, Ronnie A. Vigil; and Carla Ortiz Dean and Timothy

Ortiz, who held a special place in her heart and whom she loved as her own.

Joann is survived by her daughter, Denise Yvonne Trujillo; Donnie Ortiz and wife Brenda; her grandchildren, Lori

Vigil and companion Anthony; Ronnie Vigil and companion Karen; Cassandra Trujillo; Johnny Trujillo Jr.; Matthew

Trujillo; Gabrielle Romero; Johnelle Romero and companion Steve; Tamara Romero; Richard Ortiz and companion

Cassandra; Soda Pop Ortiz and wife April; Jessica Ortiz; Nicholas Ortiz and companion Pam; Angelo Ortiz;

Samantha Salazar; Julian Salazar; and Angel Vigil.

She is also survived by her special grandsons, Dominic and Jaziah Romero, whom she raised from a very young age.

Joann's great-grandchildren include Jaci, Angelique, Lee, Izrael and Arsenio Cole; Leandra, Malachi and Jordan

Vigil; Cynthia Martinez; Jaidenn Gutierrez; Analeigh Vigil; Zachariah and Kaidenn Sanchez; Acelynn Ortiz;

Kingston Martinez; Roman Ortiz; Liam, Leyoni and Landon Ortiz; Jayden, Nico and Nicolette Ortiz; Addison Ortiz;

Sebastian and Lucas Ortiz; and Elliana Villegas.

Her great-great-grandchildren are Legend Love and Nubé Cole.

Joann is also survived by her sisters, Lydia Montoya and husband Joe "Tito" Montoya; Elizabeth Pike and husband

Dave; Arlene Bustos and husband Martin; and Kathy Vigil; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family

members, friends, and loved ones whose lives she touched throughout the years.
