JoAnn G. Lucero, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully after an 18- month battle with cancer on March 21, 2026. She was born on November 15, 1946, in Taos, New Mexico, to Jose Manuel Archuleta and Marina Torres Archuleta. She entered the world just 15 minutes after her twin brother, Joe.
At the age of two, JoAnn moved with her parents to the Toketee Falls area, in Oregon. She spent her early childhood between Oregon and New Mexico, often with her maternal grandparents, Onesimo Torres and Anna Martinez Torres, who played a meaningful role in her upbringing. At nine years of age she returned to New Mexico with her family, where she attended Catholic school until 8th grade and completed her high school education at Taos High School.
After graduation, JoAnn moved to Albuquerque with her grandmother Anna and cousin David to continue her education. At the age of twenty, she met the love of her life, Samuel Ernest Lucero. They married and built a life together in Taos, New Mexico, where they raised their three children: Alan, Joyce, and Doreen.
Early in her marriage, JoAnn worked as a beautician at Little Alice Beauty Salon, and then Polly’s Beauty Shop, where she built lasting relationships in her community. She later dedicated many years to education as a teacher at Taos Christian Academy. She eventually stepped away from her career to help care for her parents - a reflection of her deep commitment to family. She was an active member of her church community and lived her life grounded in strong faith and service.
JoAnn was known for her unwavering love for her family and friends. She shared a close bond with her siblings and extended family. Her faith in God guided her life and brought strength to those around her. She will be remembered for her kindness, devotion, and the steady presence she provided to everyone she loved.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her in-laws, two brothers-in-law, and many beloved family members.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Ernest Lucero; her son, Alan Lucero; her daughter, Joyce Guinther (David); and her daughter, Doreen Scovazzi (Guglielmo).
She is survived by her siblings: Joe (Marlene), Floyd (Violetta), Lloyd (Dolores), Dean (Angela), and Louella Nichols (Gerald).
She is survived by her husband’s siblings: Dolores (Johnny), Bonifacio (Mary-Lou) and Rebecca Colthrup. And her sister-in-laws Mercy (Luis) and Elida (Patricio) Lucero.
She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
JoAnn’s legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the lives she touched through her faith, care, and dedication.
