Jerry Carl Borshard

Jerry Carl Borshard Jr., 82, of Santa Fe, died peacefully at home on December 10, 2025. His family is saddened by his sudden departure thought to have been from heart failure. He was born October 31, 1943, in Florida to the late Jerry Carl Borshard Sr. and Mary (Doig) Borshard. Jerry is survived by his three loving children: sons Jerry Carl Borshard III (Kodiak, AK, wife Jessica Edelson) and Jacob York Borshard (Santa Fe, NM), his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Dunham, MD (Wenatchee, WA, husband Benjamin Dunham), and his only grandchild, Elliot Dunham, age 12. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Larry Borshard, Hopatcong, NJ (wife Laurie Munro Borshard) and Joan (nee Borshard) Schliewenz, East Stroudsburg, PA (widow of Guy Schliewenz, Sr.). He will be missed greatly by multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Jerry grew up on Long Island and subsequently Morris County, New Jersey. A graduate of the Dover High School Class of 1961, he received a BA in music at Drew University and pursued graduate studies in biochemistry, microbiology, and musical arts at the University of North Texas, Texas Tech, and UT Southwestern. While studying in Texas he met and married Carole Ann York in 1969, and they raised their three children in Plano, Texas. He and Carole Ann fell in love with the topography and culture of Santa Fe, NM and settled there for many years before separating in 2016.

Jerry was well known and loved for his musicianship, having had a long life of playing and teaching classical piano to many hundreds of students. He enjoyed playing his favorites by Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt up to the day preceding his death. He was very active in the Santa Fe musician community and will be missed terribly. In accordance with Jerry’s wishes he will be cremated on December 17th.
