Listen to Obituary

Jean Ann Stratton, born June 6, 1937, in Portales, NM, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2026, in Santa Fe. The suddenness of her departure has left a deep absence in the hearts of those who cherished her, but her memory is woven tenderly into the tapestry of all she touched.

With a heart that overflowed with love, Jean dedicated her life to nurturing others—foremost as a loving mother, and equally as an educator, mentor, and friend. Her children—Kevin Rehorn, John Rehorn, Jennifer Rehorn/Alcocer, and Don Rehorn—mourn her deeply, holding close the warmth and wisdom she so generously shared. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren Anna, Nick and Krista as well as her greatgrandchildren Hunter and Harper Gear. As well as the father of her children, Clarence Rehorn.  She is also lovingly remembered by the soul of her son, Ron Rehorn, whom she now rejoins, along with countless friends and family that went before her.

Jean’s lifelong devotion to teaching shaped many futures in Santa Fe, where she taught English and Journalism at both Santa Fe High School and Capitol High School. Her classroom was not merely a space for learning, but a sanctuary where curiosity, kindness, and creativity flourished under her guidance. Students found in Jean a teacher who believed in them and inspired in them a lifelong love of words and ideas.

Her journey in education extended beyond the classroom walls when she became the director of Re:Leaning, where her visionary spirit continued to uplift those around her. Even upon retiring from formal education, Jean’s zest for community connection did not wane. She enthusiastically joined the Atencios in preserving the secret recipes for El Parasol and El Paragua, ensuring that these flavors—and the stories behind them—would be savored for generations to come.

Jean’s legacy is not merely in accomplishments but in every heart she touched, every lesson she imparted, and every moment of encouragement she offered. She truly exemplified the meaning of devotion, guiding her family and students with gentle hands and an unwavering spirit.

As her family and friends gather, they remember Jean’s laughter, her sincerity, and the way she made each person feel valued and seen. Though her absence will be felt keenly, her love remains—steadfast and enduring.

Jean Ann Stratton’s life was a testament to the power of compassion, education, and the enduring bonds of family. Those who loved her will continue to be inspired by the lessons she leaves behind and the love she gave so freely.
