Janet M. Schreiber, PhD passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from natural causes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard N Hall and called Santa Fe, NM and Questa, NM home.
Professor Schreiber graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a PhD in medical anthropology and moved to Northern New Mexico in 1989 with her family, Richard N Hall a member of the Houston Symphony and Taos Chamber Music Group, (bassoon) and daughter Gwyneth Mogg-Hall. Dr. Schreiber had a lengthy career including founding the grief and loss program at Southwestern College, teaching at Northern New Mexico Community College, as a tenured professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Rice University. Many of her former graduate students became her dear friends and continue to serve comminutes throughout New Mexico. She sat on the board of Taos Holy Cross Hospital and taught courses at the University of New Mexico Hospital. With Dr. Michele Shedlin, she worked on numerous Prevention Community Planning Assessments throughout the US, Central and South America.
Her love of the outdoors was constant, and she could often be found cross-country skiing at Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area with a huge grin or hiking in Columbine Canyon with friends and dogs at her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Norman Hall; and her brother, Robin Mogg.
She is survived in NM by many dear friends including Janie Corrine, Rachael Corrine Sanborn, Suzanne Maxwell, Camille Clifford, Rhonda Black and Camille Burnett. Family members that grieve her include but are not limited to: Gwyneth Mogg-Hall, Joseph, Charles and Eleanor Green of Brattleboro, VT; Alan Hall and Christine Braunger of Houston, TX; Myrtle and Al Lewis of Thornton, NH; Katherine and Thea Mogg of Brooklyn, NY; Margaret Mogg of Moss Vale, Australia; Lida Betsey Keene and Ashley Lu of Houston, TX; Lida Marie, Vincent and Olivia Enche of Seattle, WA; Lucas, Maddie, Winston, Barlow and Richard Burnley of Bend, OR; and Kevin, Wendy, Killian and Mykel Mogg of San Francisco, CA.
A memorial service will be held this summer for details please contact Rivera Funeral Home.
