James Alfred Meyer

James Alfred Meyer entered this world on January 19, 1928, and departed this life for the next world of God on March 28, 2026, from his home in Espanola at the age of 98.

Jim was born to Irene and Alfred Meyer in Quincy, Illinois, and spent his early life and youth there. He was a graduate of the class of 1946 from Quincy Senior High School.

Immediately after graduating, he joined the United States Army and served as a corporal during WW2. He was in the last mounted cavalry at Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Shortly after being discharged, he met his wife, Marilyn Leach, also of Quincy. They have been privileged to share this earthly life for more than 76 years.

Jim was employed and learned his skills at Huck Manufacturing Company in Quincy, where his dad also worked.

In 1961, he and his family moved to Espanola, New Mexico, to teach the Baha’i Faith. He was instrumental in establishing a National Baha’i Council in New Mexico.

He was employed for thirty years at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, as a mechanical technician. Jim received several patents through the Lab for his innovative and unconventional solutions to complex problems.

One of Jim’s greatest joys was dancing. He and Marilyn especially loved the big band music from the 40s and 50s as well as older country western music and salsa. He also loved camping, especially sitting around the campfire with family and friends.

Jim was a builder at heart. He could build anything from a box for his girls’ roller skates to a complete house! His guiding work ethic was taught to him by his father. “It is either right or it is wrong, there is no ‘good enough’.” He lived his life by that standard.

James was a good man in every sense of the word. His memory and his legacy will be kept alive in those he taught and loved.

He was preceded to the next world by his beloved sister, Betty Jane, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his daughters, Jean and husband Craig Olsen, Rebecca (Becky) Meyer, son James (Barney) Meyer and wife Kelly, grandson Chad Olsen and wife Elvira, and granddaughter Megan Olsen.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 7th, at 2:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home, Kiva Chapel of Light, at 417 Rodeo Rd., Santa Fe.
