Isabelle Christine Beulaygue, Ph.D., was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France on August 9th, 1987 to Alain Beulaygue and Josefina Escobar Montoya, their only child. She grew up between France, Paraguay, and Colombia. She moved to Miami, FL in 2005 to attend University of Miami. She went on to obtain Bachelors, Masters, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from University of Miami over the next 11 years. Fluent in French, Spanish, English, Italian, and Arabic, some of her fondest memories were studying abroad in Florence, Italy, participating in The Alliance Française, and being the faculty advisor to the Omani student organization. Her Ph.D. is in medical sociology with concentration on female adolescent mental health. This led her to further work with Girls Inc., where she was a board member at the time of her passing.
She married her husband, Carlos Alvarez, in 2017. They met in 2008 at the University of Miami. They lived in Syracuse, NY, Boston, MA, Iowa City, IA, Omaha, NE during the completion of their respective postdoctoral training. She was a full-time instructor at University of Nebraska at Omaha for several years where she was beloved by students and colleagues. She and Carlos welcomed their only son, Carlos Alain, in December 2024. She was a devoted and loving mother and was inseparable from her baby. She moved with her husband, son, and parents to Santa Fe, NM in July 2025.
She was an avid reader, equestrian, polyglot, fashionista, and skier. Most importantly, she was the friendliest, most curious, most intelligent, most impressive woman to walk into any room. Her friends and loved ones span multiple cities, states, countries, and continents. She was an unforgettable beauty—inside and out.
Her life was tragically and unexpectedly cut short on October 24, 2026 in a flash flood. She had so many plans for raising her young son, traveling the world, and contributing to her community.
She is survived by her parents Alain and Josefina, her husband Carlos, her son Carlos Alain, her parents in-law Carlos and Laura, siblings in-law Elizabeth, Diego, and Gabriella, niece Jazmine, nephew Manolo, many aunts and cousins both in France and Colombia, and countless friends all over the world.
Everyone who knew her is shattered by the loss of her warmth, may she rest in peace. May we honor her memory in the way we love her family and contribute to our communities.
