Irene Geoffrion Aranda

Our sweet and loving mother, Irene Aranda, age 85, spent her last day surrounded by her children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Irene passed away peacefully later that night in the arms of her daughter Lorraine and granddaughter Alysha, with her son in law Mark by her side, on December 19, 2016. Our mother was our rock, our pillar of strength, the glue that held our family together, our hearts will forever be broken. Irene was born on September 26, 1931 in Las Vegas, NM to Alfred and Melecia Geoffrion. Irene cherished her days growing up in a large, loving family and cheerleading at the Immaculate Conception high school. Irene met the love of her life Henry and they married on December 26, 1949. They settled in Santa Fe, raised six kids and shared a life together for 62 years. Irene taught her kids how to love, respect, have compassion and empathy for others. She will be remembered for her green eyes and dimples. She lived her life openly showing the great love she had for Jesus Christ who gave her strength to the very end. Irene taught catechism at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, was a substitute teacher with the public schools and went on to retire from the Santa Fe Public Schools where she was a secretary at SFHS. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, her parents, her mother and father in law, Roman and Eloisa Aranda, son in law Lee, her sister Pita, brothers Robert and Louis, brother in laws, Gene, Victor and Ted, sister in law Vinny. Irene is survived by her children Teresa Martinez, Henry Aranda (Maria), Richard Aranda, John Aranda, Lorraine Salazar (Mark) and James Aranda (Veronica). Irene was a loving and devoted Grandmother to Tanya (Alex), Lucian (Amellia), Dianna (Carlo), Stephanie (Jeremy), Michael, Andrew, William, Isaiah, Raymond, Alysha (Leo) and Lauren. Great- grandchildren, Haley, Nathaniel, Samuel, Liam and Aaliyah also Goddaughter, Melissa Sedillos. Irene is also survived by her sisters, Agnes, Rosemary (Jerry), Juliet, Dolores (Jimmy) brothers Artie (Irene) and Alfred (Gloria), and Carmen Geoffrion, sister in laws Betty Sweeney (James), Florinda Grubesic, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am, Monday, December 26, 2016 at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community Church, 11 College Avenue, immediately followed by a Mass at 11:00 and luncheon in the parish social hall.
