Ignacio Jose Medina, fondly known to many as Nacho, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family in his hometown of Jaconita, New Mexico. Born on October 23, 1951, Ignacio was not only a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, but also a devoted member of his community and a proud machinist with an extensive career at Los Alamos National Labs.

Nacho's professional journey as a machinist was marked by his extensive knowledge and unwavering work ethic, traits that earned him the respect and admiration of peers and supervisors alike. His dedication to his craft was only paralleled by his commitment to passing down his skills and expertise to his sons, Julio and Orlando. Whether it was changing a tire or riding horses, Ignacio ensured that his children grew into knowledgeable and self-sufficient men.

Beyond his career, Ignacio was deeply involved in his community. Together with his wife, Florence Medina, they served as Mayordomos for Sacred Heart Church in Nambe and San Antonio De Pauda in El Rancho for a total of 2 years each. His generosity extended to making grave ornaments for community members, a labor of love for which he only ever charged for materials. This exemplified his giving nature, as he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, often personifying the phrase that he would give the shirt off his back for someone.

Ignacio's interests were as rich and varied as his life experience. A passionate winemaker, he became well-known in his community for his skill in crafting wine, which he generously shared with locals without expectation of compensation. He delighted in hobbies such as hunting, fishing, cooking, and canning fresh fruits and meats, alongside a penchant for seeking the best deals while shopping. His enjoyment of boating with his wife and sons during their younger years and riding his side-by-side brought much joy to their lives.

He and his family transformed their property over the years, developing a beautiful home on three acres complete with multiple garages and lush grass—an embodiment of Ignacio's pride and dedication. His legacy is further enriched by the love he showed to all who knew him.

Ignacio Jose Medina is survived by his cherished wife, Florence Medina; sons, Julio Medina (Jolene) and Orlando Medina (Erika); grandchildren, Jeremiah, Josiah, Serena, Angelo, and Mia; and his brother, Lorenzo Medina (Patty). He also leaves behind many cousins, aunts, uncles, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Bernie Medina; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eloy and Aurelia Salazar; and his grandparents, Jose and Abelina Medina and Vicente and Eliza Garcia.
