Remembering Bud Hoover: A Life Well-Lived

Bud Hoover, a devoted father, beloved husband, and community leader, passed away at the age of 92. Known for his striking blue eyes and engaging personality, Bud was often regarded as "Uncle Bud" due to his sincere interest in others’ lives and backgrounds. His warmth, kindness, and deep sense of community defined his remarkable journey.

Bud's educational path led him from Webb School of California to Claremont Men's College, where he earned a BA in Business Administration. Following his academic pursuits, he served his country with honor as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.

Upon completing his military service, Bud embarked on a distinguished professional career. He took great pride in continuing the legacy of The Hoover Company, which his father expanded internationally. He dedicated two decades of his life to First Interstate Bank, where he retired as Vice President.

Beyond his professional life, Bud's commitment to community service was extensive. He held leadership positions across multiple sectors, including as Sr. Commander for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and Deputy Sheriff for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department—a testament to his lifelong passion for law enforcement. He contributed significantly to educational institutions, notably serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Webb School of California.

A committed advocate for the arts, Bud was Chairman of the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Wheelwright Museum. He also played an instrumental role as Trustee for the School of American Research. His dedication extended to numerous cultural and philanthropic organizations, where he served as a board member and trustee, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he valued. He was involved with the New Mexico Museum of Art, Palm Springs Historical Society, and The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.

A serious collector of Western and Spanish Colonial art, Bud’s interests also encompassed the great outdoors; he relished off-roading adventures and enjoyed spending quality time hiking and picnicking with his family.

His fondest memories included his time growing up at Smoke Tree Ranch, the serene beauty of Bois Blanc Island, the village life in Palm Springs, and the vibrant culture in Santa Fe. He traveled the world extensively with Barbara, his beloved wife and life partner of 53 years, creating countless memories.

Throughout his life, Bud’s commitment to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, along with his loving daughters, Wendy and Diana, and son-in-law, Rick. He adored his grandsons, Christopher, Geoffrey, and Jonathon and greatly appreciated his assistant, Christina Colton.

As we remember Uncle Bud, we honor not only his accomplishments and contributions to society but even more so the warmth, kindness, and sense of community he fostered throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire many.
